In patients with Tinea pedis, 1 week Terbinafine twice a day has comparable efficacy to 4 weeks Clotrimazole twice a day.

A randomized controlled trial showed that for Tinea pedis (athletic foot) management, 1 week Terbinafine twice a day is as effective as 4 weeks Clotrimazole twice a day with respect to mycological cure rate and clinical treatment rate. In the outpatient clinic of the dermatology department, Araz Hasan Mohammed et al. sought to compare the effectiveness and safety of  Terbinafine and Clotrimazole creams for Tinea pedis.

This study comprised 60 participants clinically diagnosed with dermatophytic fungal infection of the body. For one week, 30 patients used 1% Terbinafine cream topically twice daily, and for four weeks, 30% of the patients used 1% Clotrimazole cream topically twice daily. Fungi were scraped out both prior to and following treatment. Clinical and mycological cures were used to gauge effectiveness. At weeks 1, 4, and 6, the mycological and clinical cures were assessed.

The mycological cure rates and clinical treatment rates of Terbinafine and Clotrimazole Groups are shown in Table 1:

Hence, both 1% Terbinafine and 1% Clotrimazole cream are effective for the treatment of Tinea pedis.
