Key take away

Hybrid high- and low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid injections markedly improve skin firmness, hydration, and dermal thickness with high safety and patient satisfaction.

Background

Formulations based on hyaluronic acid (HA) have shown promise in addressing a variety of skin concerns, including signs of aging. This study set out to examine the clinical safety and effectiveness of an injectable blend containing both high- and low-molecular-weight HA, utilized for improving skin quality and appearance.

Method

In this before-and-after clinical study, 20 individuals with rough, dry, or wrinkled skin received 2 sessions of intradermal injections. Each session involved 2 mL of the stabilized HA complex administered at 5 targeted facial points, spaced 4 weeks apart. The evaluation included objective measurements such as skin hydration and ultrasound imaging, as well as the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS). Patient-reported pain levels, satisfaction, and any adverse effects were also recorded.

Result

Remarkable improvements in skin firmness were noted at both follow-up visits. Reductions in transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and increases in dermal ecodensity were evident after the first session, while a substantial increase in dermal thickness was noted at the second follow-up. The median GAIS score reflected a 51%–75% improvement in overall skin appearance. Patient satisfaction scores were 7 and 6 at the first and second visits, respectively. No serious adverse effects were reported, and average pain during treatment was minimal, with a score of 2 out of 10.

Conclusion

HA-based injectable appeared to be both safe and effective in revitalizing the skin, offering a promising option for those seeking non-surgical facial rejuvenation.
