Post-surgical pain is one of the most common challenges in dental practice, influencing patient comfort, recovery, and overall therapy experience. While nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) continue to be the cornerstone of pain management, the durability of analgesia often determines their clinical utility. The latest evidence suggests that tenoxicam may offer a dependable option across a broad spectrum of dental interventions.

Drawing together evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving patients undergoing third molar extraction, endodontic treatment, orthodontic adjustment, and dental implant surgery, the review evaluated tenoxicam against placebo and established postoperative analgesics. Pain intensity was assessed using standardized visual analog scale (VAS) measurements at multiple postoperative time points, with study quality appraised using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool.

Across the available evidence, tenoxicam consistently provided effective postoperative pain relief regardless of the dental procedure performed. Its analgesic efficacy remained comparable with commonly used postoperative therapies while maintaining pain control over extended follow-up periods, reducing the need for early rescue analgesia in several studies. Equally important, the drug demonstrated a favorable tolerability profile, with no major safety concerns emerging across the included trials.

Although a small number of studies showed methodological limitations, these did not substantially alter the overall direction of the evidence. Instead, the review reinforces tenoxicam as a clinically effective NSAID with sustained analgesic benefits, while highlighting the need for larger, well-designed trials to further strengthen the evidence base.

For dental practitioners, the findings support tenoxicam as a practical option for postoperative pain management, particularly when prolonged analgesia and good tolerability are important considerations in routine clinical care.
