This review investigated the potential of Shenque acupoint (CV8) cupping therapy for relieving urticaria.
Abdominal acupoint cupping (CV8 Shenque) may help alleviate urticaria by regulating meridians and organ functions, showing improved effectiveness, symptom severity, and quality of life.
This review investigated the potential of Shenque acupoint (CV8) cupping therapy for relieving urticaria.
Randomized trials comparing CV8 (Shenque) cupping therapy with other treatments were retrieved from 14 global databases (up to June 2024). Primary outcomes included symptom scores, quality of life, and effectiveness. Data evaluation was conducted using Review Manager, the Cochrane bias assessment tool, and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) framework for the quality of evidence.
Six randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving 409 patients were analyzed. The CV8 (Shenque) cupping therapy significantly enhanced effectiveness (P = .002) compared to other treatments. It also improved symptom scores, including wheal severity, symptom duration, and overall well-being (Table 1).
CV8 (Shenque) cupping therapy shows potential for urticaria, but robust, high-quality studies are warranted to settle its efficacy.
