Ginger and lavender oils offer anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and calming benefits for managing primary dysmenorrhea, inflammation, and mild mood symptoms.
With the rising demand for safe, effective, and natural solutions for menstrual pain relief, a recent study published in the Lebanese Medical Journal highlighted the promising benefits of essential oil capsules as a viable alternative.
Conducted among 160 Indian teenage students, this randomized, single-blind trial by Harikumar Pallathadka and fellow researchers compared the effects of ginger and lavender essential oil capsules with mefenamic acid, an NSAID, and paracetamol, a common analgesic. Over two months, participants reported pain severity using the Cox Menstrual Symptom Scale.
A greater deduction in menstrual pain severity among those taking the essential oil capsules compared to the mefenamic and paracetamol groups was observed. However, pain duration did not significantly differ between the groups, and by the second month, all treatments showed comparable effects.
This study supports oral essential oil capsules as a safe and effective natural remedy for relieving dysmenorrhea along with its severity and duration, with potential for further exploration.
