Adaptation to Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire and Validation of Its Use in Women suffering from Chronic Pelvic Pain

The pain below the bellybutton and between the hips is known as chronic pelvic pain that may persist for six months or longer. This is a common problem among women and imposes a major challenge to health care providers due to its unclear etiology, poor response to therapy and complex natural history.

Poli-Neto OB et al conducted a study to translate and adapt the Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire (PSQ) to Portuguese and to analyse its psychometric properties based on internal consistency, test-retest, factor analysis and divergent and convergent construct validities. The study was approved by the local Research Ethics Committee included and included a total of 218 participantsThe instrument was translated and culturally modified to adjust it for use in Portuguese. The internal consistency and factorial analysis were estimated by patients and physicians. Convergent and divergent validities were also estimated for the patient group, and test-retest reliability, using the Portuguese versions of the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) . Also, a questionnaire of clinical and demographic data was used for the analysis of the divergent validity.

As per the results, adapted version of the PSQ revealed a good Cronbach's α and test-retest values. Results of the convergent construct validity between the PSQ and the PHQ-9 (r=0.34; p=0.02) and the STAI (r=0.47; p=0.001) were negative, important and moderate correlations. Divergent validity explained the significant correlations with race and education. The Brazilian Portuguese version of the PSQ was confirmed as a valid and reliable instrument, with psychometric features sestimatin the satisfaction level among patients with chronic pelvic pain and their physicians in Brazil. The questionnaire may help the amalgamatiom of reports on this topic in the international literature.
